Limited Edition Turtles

They only come once a year for a limited time...Werther's Original Harvest Soft Caramel candies. 

These are wonderful soft and creamy caramels with hints of fall spices. 

They disappear off the shelfs fast, so you will need to be even faster to get these gems. 

They are wonderful on their own, but they make even better turtles.  

I found them at my local Target and picked up turtle supplies there also.   

You'll need:

Mini pretzels 

Pecan halves

Melt Chocolate chips 

Werther's Original soft caramel's

Equipment:

Parchment paper 

Baking sheet

Small microwave safe bowl

Sandwich bag

 

Line your baking sheet with parchment paper, pre-heat you oven to 350.

Lay out your pretzels on your baking sheet, un-wrap you Werther's Soft Caramels and place a caramel on each pretzel.  Place in the oven until just soften and just start to melt.  This will take only a few minutes, so don't walk away.  Once this happens remove from the oven and press one pecan half into each caramel candy.  

In your microwave safe bowl melt your chocolate at 10 second intervals. Stirring until melted until drizzle consistency.  If a little thick add a pea size amount of shortening.  Not too much or it will not firm up.  Now drizzle over each turtle. 

Place them in the freezer/refrigerator until the chocolate is firm. Remove and enjoy.  These make wonderful sweet, salty spiced treats.
